Environment approach

In Heisei 13 year, Matsue National College of Technology set the educational objectives of “MAnande TSUkureru Engineer”. We defined an “engineer” as “a person who, as a citizen of the world, has the will to contribute to society, to consider the environment, and to challenge the evolution of technology” and declared that we would foster “engineers” who can contribute to global environmental conservation. In order to achieve this educational goal, and to actively participate in environmental conservation activities, which is the policy of Shimane Prefecture, as well as to enhance environmental education for the young generation who will be responsible for the future society as a community-based higher education institution, and to ensure objective evaluation, the entire university started activities in April 2004 to obtain ISO 14001 certification, an international standard for the environment.

The Matsue National College of Technology has set up a five-point environmental policy as a guideline for its activities, and has prepared and implemented manuals, procedures, and management programs to achieve the policy. In response to these activities, the first round of audits (document review by the secretariat and the Department of Environmental and Construction Engineering) was conducted on December 20-21, 2004, and the second round of audits (document and on-site audits by all departments) was conducted on January 26-28, 2005. After these audits, it was recognized that all the items required by ISO 14001 were in compliance with the standard, and we were able to obtain the certification on February 14, 2005. We were able to obtain the certification on February 14, 2005. Matsue National College of Technology was the first technical college in Japan to obtain ISO 14001 certification for the entire school, and also the first school in Shimane Prefecture to obtain the certification. Taking this as a good opportunity, the awareness of the environment and safety among students and faculty members has been raised since then, and efforts have been strengthened. Through these activities, environmental and safety initiatives have become firmly established among students, faculty and staff.

Therefore, we have decided to make a “self-declaration” for further environmental improvement on our own responsibility and awareness, and to promote continuous improvement in various services such as education, research, and community cooperation for the environment of Matsue National College of Technology, without depending on the examination by the examination registration organization.
